Projects

The final project builds on research, ideas, and conclusions, which you have already completed or made significant progress towards completing.  Your final project is concerned with the nuance of formal presentation (and subsequently, inevitably you will need to be thinking about the valor of the content of the work in the first place).  You are encouraged to tweak the research and the paper opportunistically in response to the formal challenges of the two obstructions and your choice of a final project.

 Components of the Final Project.

    • Concept Paper: a paper you have already written (around 8-15 pages).  This is a reference point for the final project.
    • Production Journal or Scrapbook.  You need to have this with you at every class.  This will be used for informal workshop activities but also just for being able to work on your project in class.  The production journal is to be used both for obstructions and for the final project.  It should contain at least two multi-page profiles that examine the work of an artist (or art group) doing something similar to what you want to do for your final project.  The artist profiles will need to be presented during class (please plan to have one done in February and one in March).
    • Skills plan (due February 4).  This outlines clearly the skills you expect to build while undertaking the final project.  Probably will only be a page (maybe two) in length.  You need to submit this and then follow up with a
    • Final project updates (I call this an elevator pitch sometimes to signal that it should have a degree of polish, but really it is an update or progress report).  At various times in the semester I’ll ask you to give an update on the project to the class.  As you progress towards finalizing the project, this will likely change.  This is your best opportunity to get generalized feedback from the entire class.
    • Final project rough-cut (due April 1).  The more advanced your project is at this point, the better feedback you will get from your class mates.
