Lab assignment #1

Friday, September 5th.

Bring your camera and be prepared to speak about your device as part of your presentation. Let us know its capacities and limitations, a little about its history, the photos it has taken, the places it has been. Tell us what has been written about it.

Create a Powerpoint slide show featuring three photographs you have shot and three photographs shot by others using the same or similar camera. Bring the Powerpoint show to class on a usb drive.

First Class 2014

Greetings to you all and welcome back to school!

Our Photographic Image class meets on Tuesdays (3:30 – 5:00 pm) for a regular seminar. Labs are on Fridays. Our first class will be on Tuesday, September 2nd. The first lab will be on September 5th. I will be assigning a chapter of a book by Ben Highmore for you to read (highmore2011_ch1) before your labs on Friday.

Please be sure to pick up the one required book at the Co-op bookstore:

Pink, Sarah. 2013. Doing Visual Ethnography (Third Edition).

Note you are required to get the Third Edition.

Remember: you MUST have access to a camera for this class. A cell phone camera, disposable camera, holga, etc. will do but you will probably have to work extra hard to get what you want with it. If you are not already proficient with your camera you need to plan to spend self-directed time becoming familiar with it.

I’m really looking forward to this class and I promise you’ll find it enriching and challenging. Our teaching assistant is Daniel Perera. You can call me Craig or Dr. Campbell, whichever you prefer.
